Why a book club?
The idea behind Deep Dive Society is to fill a gap in the public discussion around complicated social, political, and economic issues by enabling curious and open-minded people to learn more about these topics together and with domain specialists.
We have two main goals:
- build a community of people interested in thinking about complicated subjects in a rigorous fashion
- improve the quality of public debate by engaging public and specialists
Deep Dive Society is currently in an experimental stage. We are trying to understand whether we can actually find enough people in London that are eager to meet regularly to learn more about the most important problems of today in a format of a reading club.
We have no political affilitation and will try to stay as apolitical as we can - our primary goal is to build a community of people that enjoy learning and feel deeply about improving public discourse.
How We Learn!
The Deep Dive Society will be organized around specific topics. Each topic will be then subdivided into individual lessons. For each lesson, we will try to have a domain specialist for the in-person discussion. Before the lesson, the specialist will recommend materials that members can study in order to learn more about the subject upfront. Reading the material is though not compulsory for attending the lessons.
During the in-person lesson, we will meet and discuss the topic against the background of the required reading.
The current topic is Energy Transition. For the list of subjects and other information, see here.
Sounds fun?
Because the Deep Dive Society is currently in an experimental stage, anyone interested can come to our sessions. You just need to RSVP on our Meetup page.
